As the golden glow of autumn paints the sky and the anticipation of China’s National Day (October 1st) fills the air, another beloved festival—the Mid-Autumn Festival (a time for family reunions, mooncakes, and cherished traditions)—shares the spotlight this year. On September 26th, ahead of the dual holidays, we gathered all our colleagues for a lively Mid-Autumn "Bo Bing" (Dice Game) Party—a vibrant tradition unique to southern China’s Fujian and Taiwan regions—followed by a warm family-style dinner. It was an evening of laughter, luck, and togetherness, and we’re thrilled to share this piece of our company culture with you, our valued partners around the world.

What is "Bo Bing"? The Story Behind Fujian’s Beloved Mid-Autumn Tradition

If you’ve never heard of "Bo Bing," let us introduce you to this joyful custom steeped in history. Legend has it that "Bo Bing" (literally "gambling with dice") was created by the famous Chinese military leader Zheng Chenggong in the 17th century. During his campaign in Xiamen (a coastal city in Fujian), he wanted to lift the spirits of his soldiers, who missed their families deeply during the Mid-Autumn Festival. He designed a dice game based on ancient Chinese poetry and mythology, turning a simple pastime into a way to share hope, luck, and a sense of community.

Today, "Bo Bing" is the heart of Mid-Autumn celebrations in Fujian. Here’s how it works:

Participants take turns rolling six dice into a large bowl.

Different combinations of dice (from "Yi Xiu"—one pair—to the grand "Zhuang Yuan"—five of a kind plus a six, called "Zhuang Yuan Cha Jin Hua") correspond to prizes—from small gifts (like mooncakes or tea) to larger rewards.

The real magic? It’s not just about winning. It’s about the cheers when someone rolls a lucky combination, the friendly teasing when dice land "empty," and the way everyone leans in, united by the excitement of the moment.

At our Shengda party, the room echoed with the clink of dice against bowls. When one of our sales  rolled the "Zhuang Yuan" (the top prize), the whole room erupted in applause. The table was filled with local delicacies: braised pork ribs with bamboo shoots (a Fujian classic), steamed fish (symbolizing prosperity), and of course, mooncakes—the iconic Mid-Autumn treat (we had flavors like red bean, lotus seed, and even salted egg yolk, a favorite among many!).

As we ate and talked, we reflected on the past year: the challenges we overcame (like optimizing our antenna designs for 5G networks), the milestones we achieved (like expanding our product line to serve clients in Europe, Southeast Asia, and North America), and most importantly, the trust you’ve placed in us.
