In September, 5G commercial nodes are approaching, and all the information about 5G is affecting the nerves of the industry. Unicom and Telecom have jointly built 5G base stations on this side, and China Mobile is also doing 5G network construction with great efforts on that side. In addition to promoting the integration of infrastructure, China Mobile has also joined forces with partners in various industrial chains in terms of 5G + industry and 5G + automatic driving. As Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, said, to promote 5G development, the network is the foundation, integration is the key, cooperation is the trend, and application is the fundamental. In the promotion of 5G, China Mobile is playing cards one by one according to its own route.

Spread the Internet, Big Brushwork and Broader Style

“Market development, network first”, for China Mobile, which is sitting on the largest network and most user resources in the world, is well aware that building 5G network before developing users is the most basic work.

China Mobile has the largest 4G network in the world, and the number of 4G base stations accounts for more than half of the country. Therefore, China Mobile makes full use of 4G site resources to build 5G, vigorously promote 5G and 4G technology sharing, resource sharing, coverage collaboration, business collaboration.

In less than a month after the 5G licensing, China Mobile has issued three large orders in a row. These three orders include core network upgrade 5G, 5G terminal (beta version) and 5G phase I wireless project. Compared with Friends, whether it is purchasing 1131 sets of equipment for 5G NSA network or 171,000 5G terminals, it further proves the financial strength of China Mobile.

At the same time, China Mobile also increased the scale of construction in 2019, expanding the scope of commercial cities. In 2019, China Mobile will build more than 50,000 base stations nationwide and realize 5G commercial services in more than 50 cities. To achieve the expected goal, China Mobile has increased its 5G network construction capital to 24 billion yuan.

Up to now, China Mobile has built more than 20,000 5G base stations in 52 key cities in the country. Meanwhile, in order to let more customers perceive 5G network through 5G Experience Hall and other ways, it has launched 5G network construction in more than 300 cities in the country. It is expected to achieve 5G commercial services in more than 50 cities in 2019. In 2020, the network coverage will be further expanded to provide 5G commercial services in all cities above Prefecture level.

In addition, China Mobile has also promoted the implementation of the “two thousand plan”, that is, 5G Network + Gigabit broadband, in order to better serve the “four major areas” of individuals, families, government, enterprises and cities.

Expanding Application, More Point to Industry Market

It is said that 80% of the 5G interconnection is used to connect things. After the 5G licensing, China Mobile vigorously promoted the “5G+” plan to enable 5G applications. Its implementation of the “5G+” program to a large extent points to the industry market, including the meaning of 5G+AICDE, which means to promote the close integration of 5G with new information technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, edge computing, and provide more and richer applications.

In fact, facing the industry as the main battlefield of 5G, China Mobile has already taken action. In addition to tapping individual consumer, family and community applications, China Mobile has been striving to develop new runways for industry applications.

On the one hand, focusing on the ten key scenarios (agriculture, power grid, factory, transportation, city, medical treatment, campus, family entertainment, cloud-based robots and UAV), which are most closely integrated with 5G and have the strongest demonstration effect and scale effect, promotes the deep integration application of 5G in key areas.

On the other hand, they signed strategic cooperation agreements with Huawei, ZTE, Nokia, Ericsson, State Grid, South China Grid, China Construction Bank and other leading industries respectively, and promoted the cross-border integration and development of 5G applications in all directions around the key areas of industrial Internet of Things, healthy Internet of Things, intelligent travel, industrial Internet and smart grid. Exhibition, has formed many successful cases.

Broad cooperation and strive for “a long way to go”

Walking alone is not necessarily fast, but people can go far. In terms of 5G industrial cooperation, China Mobile’s 5G + Ecolog is intended to promote the 5G new ecology of resource sharing, ecological symbiosis, mutual benefit and win-win, and financial development.

In order to better lead industry partners to explore the way of integration of 5G and industry, China Mobile led Huawei, Alibaba, Baidu, Qualcomm, Xinhua III, Haixin, Good Future, VMware, Hong Kong-China Gas, Beijing Disney Telecom and other partners to establish a “5G industry digital alliance” in December 2018, which clearly put forward the proposal. “Four Let’s” cooperation ideas – let the partners who know the industry create high-quality products, let the partners who contact customers gain value-added, let the platform help product sales, let resources help enterprises take off.

After the release of the “5G+” strategy, China Mobile and its industrial partners jointly build 5G terminal pioneer industry alliance, 5G industry digital alliance, 5G Multimedia Innovation alliance, and innovatively launch 5G “BEST” new business plan. Among them, “5G Industry Digital Alliance” will launch 100 partner selection plan, 10 billion fund takeoff plan, 1000 channel promotion plan, preferential resources enjoyment plan, and set up a general industry fund to provide basic support for industrial innovation.

Under great pressure, the key to 5G’s future lies in “mode”

In the first half of 2019, China Mobile handed over its “worst” semi-annual report since 2000. Operating revenue, telecommunications service revenue and net profit all declined year-on-year. In contrast, the entire telecommunications industry has also entered a sluggish situation of weak revenue growth. According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the growth rate of the telecommunications industry in the first half of 2019 was -0.3%.

At the MWC19 Shanghai exhibition, Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, admitted that China Mobile and even the industry have entered a critical period of transformation and development. “The growth of traditional business income is approaching the ceiling, and there is an urgent need for us to look at the bigger blue sea.”
